Skeleton's Playing Poker 2012

The "Skeleton's Playing Poker" design is finally completed after a full year in on-again /off-again production. The plan is to print this design on a dark "asphalt" colored American Apparel t-shirt. The caramel color I was considering earlier looked a little too goofy.

(Archradish and I are working on combining our labels, so this design will not print until our new logo is completed.)

December Calendar Show at Bows and Arrows

This year I am participating in the Bows and Arrows second annual calendar show. For this show, I was assigned the month of October -- which just happens to be my favorite month of the year!

My painting is a study of the amazing views, wildlife, and vegetation in the Yolo area during the month of October.
The barn owl, thistles, and the amazing sunset are the key elements I knew I had to incorporate to portray this locally themed Octoberscape accurately.

The opening reception will be at the Bows and Arrows main gallery on Dec. 7, 6 p.m.

Printed calendars featuring work from the show will be available for purchase.

Updates: October Second Saturday Event

I'm showing my art at Bows & Arrows as part of the October 2012 Second Saturday event. Flowerss will be playing at 8, and there will be a few other artists showing as well. Actually, I saw one of the other artists installing her work last week. I think her name was Liv Moe(?) She had some  truly spectacular stuff! There will be one other featured artist in the main gallery, but I have not yet seen her work.

Stop by sometime and check us all out!

I will be showing some of my Memento Mori prints (some of which are on my own handmade paper) as well as my recent book illustrations for the soon-to-be-published experimental horror novel, Hooks & Slaughterhouse by Alana I. Capria.

Skeletons Playin Poker II

New t-shirt design coming soon:

I have been working on this drawing since the Sea Lore shirt was completed, and as I juggle my other projects. I am planning on printing this design on American Apparel "camel colored shirts with up to four colors in the final design. The final product should be ready to print in two or three months if I can stay on task.

A painting of this same subject was made back in 2006.

Updates

Lot's of cool things have been happening, and I obviously don't update this blog nearly enough:

First, Dan/Archradish & I are working on getting our shirts in more shops. We are also considering participating in another local vendor sales event at some point this summer. More on that later...

Second, on Friday I will be attending an opening for a small community college magazine that is published once a year. This year I was honored to find that my art submission landed on the cover. I am very proud of this particular work, and people really seem to dig it. I recently found out that some random guy photographed the image with his cell phone (at Cuffs) and proceeded to get it tattooed on himself!

Third, I won an award for my spectacular news graphics. Gotta love The Davis Enterprise:

California Redwood Grove, 2011

My aunt has been asking for a painting of California redwood trees since 2006. Finally after all these years, I got around to painting it.

Updates

Things are starting to fall into place now —
I've finally finished my Giant Squid Battle shirt (a.k.a. "Sea Lore"), and our online store is gathering together a healthy list of potential retailers to contact.

Also, I've finally posted a test version of my official art/design portfolio to the web!
All week I will be checking it on different web browsers, hand-held devices, and monitor sizes to make sure it looks presentable.

Displayed below is a preview of some of the featured artwork on my new site. I have altered the colors a bit here to make it more mysterious. I call this version "Evil Geisha!"
